Pray Per View

The Views module singlehandedly changes a Drupal install from what you have to what you want. The trick is in getting the settings to line up properly. This is a recipe for the configuration on one of my sites.

Click on add a view. The Basic Information is fairly straightforward, just add a name for the view, choose who can access the view, and give the view a description.
I wanted my view to be a special page so I checked the box next to Provide Page View in the next section. The view was to include all subcategories in one taxonomy term, let's call it fruit, so I typed views/fruit in my URL box. I wanted the page to be a series of titles and links, so I chose Table View as the View Type. List View would have worked for this as well, but Table View puts the titles and terms in columns instead of one below the other and I liked that better. The title was easy, I left pager unchecked so there would be only one page, and put in 99 nodes per page so that all would be shown. I left all other options in this section unchanged.
I did not want a block for this view and I skipped straight to the Fields section. The nodes under taxonomy term fruits all have titles suggesting uses for different fruits, choosing Node: Title for my first field created a column down the page listing all the different ways a fruit could be used. I then chose Taxonomy: Term for the second field which causes the second column to contain all the subcategories listed under fruits, such as apples, oranges and grapes. I made both fields sortable so that anyone can click on the heading and arrange the columns as they like.
Next I skipped arguments altogether and moved down to the Filters section. Since my items were all listed under subcatagories of my main topic, I was not able to simply choose fruit for my filter and have anything show up on the views page. After I highlighted all the subcategories and hit save, the view page offered up a nice two column list of fruits and possible uses in alphabetical order.
I then cloned this view several times, changed the name, title, description, URL and filter to reflect all the different views I needed.
There was much rejoicing
